Chef's Tips
For a richer flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika to the mince mixture.
Prepare the Vegetables
Finely slice the lettuce, thinly slice the tomato, and finely slice the red onion. Slice the gherkin into thin rounds.
Make the Burger Sauce
In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the light mayonnaise and mustard until smooth. This will form your burger sauce base.
Cook the Beef Mince
Heat a frying pan over a medium heat with a small amount of oil. Add the lean beef mince and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until it is fully browned.
Season the Mince
In a separate small bowl, combine the paprika, cumin, chilli powder, and garlic powder. Add this spice mixture to the browned mince in the pan along with a the 30 ml of water. Fry for five minutes, stirring occasionally. Finally, season generously with salt and black pepper to taste.
Grate the Cheese
Grate the cheddar cheese ready for assembly.
Assemble the Wraps
Lay out the wholemeal wraps. Spread half of the prepared burger sauce evenly over each wrap. Layer on the lettuce, a quarter of the seasoned mince, the grated cheddar cheese, slices of tomato, slices of red onion, and the sliced gherkins onto each wrap.
Fold and Seal the Wraps
Fold in the short sides (the ends) of the wrap over the filling, then tightly roll the wrap over from the bottom to seal the contents.
Toast the Wraps and Serve
Heat a clean frying pan over a medium heat with a little oil. Place the wraps seam-side down in the hot pan and cook for approximately three minutes on each side until golden brown and crisp. Slice each wrap in half diagonally and drizzle with extra tomato ketchup and any remaining burger sauce before serving.
